Job Summary

As a Founding AI Engineer, you will join Acme Inc as a core member of our founding team, with significant equity and a pivotal role in shaping our AI strategy from the ground up. Reporting directly to company leadership, you will spearhead the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML systems while influencing technical direction and culture. This is a remote position offering maximum flexibility and high ownership, making it ideal for an entrepreneurial engineer eager to make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop AI/ML systems and infrastructure from scratch that will power Acme Inc’s products and services.
Build scalable AI models, pipelines, and deployment systems to enable reliable product rollouts.
Lead technical architecture decisions for new and existing AI features and products.
Implement MLOps best practices, including model training, validation, testing, and deployment automation.
Collaborate closely with the founding team to translate product vision into technical solutions with direct line of sight to company leadership.
Constantly research, evaluate, and propose adoption of cutting-edge AI technologies, frameworks, and methodologies.
Design and build robust data pipelines and annotation workflows for high-quality data collection and management.
Establish standards and best practices for model iteration, experimentation, and performance monitoring.
Mentor, onboard, and guide future AI hires as Acme Inc grows, laying the foundation for a world-class AI team.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in machine learning, AI development, and production-level AI implementation.
Expertise in Python and major AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
Demonstrated experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps tooling.
Proven track record of shipping and scaling AI products in real-world, production environments.
Strong command of data engineering concepts and ability to build scalable, efficient data pipelines.
Solid software engineering fundamentals and mastery in system design and code quality principles.
Startup experience and/or a genuine entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to own and deliver ambitious outcomes.
Excellent communication abilities and a demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or advanced degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with transformer models, large language models (LLMs), or generative AI architectures.
Background in high-growth startup environments and proven ability to thrive amid ambiguity.
Experience taking AI products from 0 to 1, including greenfield design and launch.
Familiarity with end-to-end model deployment, monitoring, and A/B testing methodologies.
